I am Shelly Steel of A Journey for Peace. I am originally a native of Jackson, Michigan. I moved to Montreal, Quebec and then relocated to Tennessee. I received my Bachelor of Arts from The University of Tennessee majoring in Psychology. I attended Trevecca Nazarene University where I earned my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy. The populations that I have worked with include children, adolescents and adults. My business experience includes working for a Fortune 500 company for 23 years prior to following my passion for the therapeutic profession. I was contracted by ABC's "The Doctors" to provide therapeutic services for a Nashville guest on their show. I was also rated as one of the top 3 marriage therapists in Nashville by Threebestrated.com. Most recently I was appointed by Governor Haslam to the licensure board for Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Pastoral Counselors. Because of my time in the business arena, I understand the work/life stress that people experience in simple day-to-day functioning. I also understand the need to offer office hours that are conducive not only to the person that works in the home, but also the person who works outside of the home. The Marriage and Family title can be misleading. The majority of my clients are individuals that I work with from a systemic perspective. I embrace the work with individuals as well as families and couples. I also believe in "giving back" to the community so I am Board Chair of a non-profit called Retrieving Independence. We train service dogs in a prison environment to be placed with those suffering from physical and emotional disabilities.
